The role
As General Counsel you will serve as a legal advisor to senior management and stakeholders, ensuring that the hotel group operates within a robust legal and regulatory framework. You will be responsible for providing legal support on corporate governance, commercial matters, real estate, and regulatory compliance while working closely with external legal advisors, regulatory bodies and the investment advisor to the hotel group.
Key Responsibilities
- Legal Advisory & Compliance
- Ensure that the management company and the hotel group entities comply with applicable rules and regulations, including corporate, commercial, real estate, and employment law.
- Provide legal support on employment matters, real estate acquisitions, ESG, and financing.
- Monitor legal developments that may impact operations and provide proactive risk management strategies.
- Contract Management & Negotiations
- Draft, review, and negotiate commercial agreements (e.g. supplier agreements, lease contracts, OTA contracts, general contractor agreements, hotel management agreements) and assist with acquisition and disposition-related documents (e.g., NDA, LOI, SPA).
- Ensure that all contracts align with the strategic goals of The Usual Hotel Group and provide adequate legal protections.
- Risk Mitigation & Corporate Governance
- Identify and mitigate legal risks related to the group’s real estate assets and hotel operations.
- Develop and implement corporate policies to support the group’s growth, compliance objectives and sustainability goals.
- Stakeholder Management & External Relations
- Serve as the primary legal point of contact for regulatory bodies and external counsel.
- Work closely with the General Counsel of the hotel group’s investment advisor to align legal strategies and compliance frameworks.
- Collaborate with internal teams across Finance, People & Culture, Build, Brand & Marketing, IT, ESG and Operations to ensure seamless legal support.
- Training & Legal Awareness
- Conduct legal and compliance training for employees, ensuring awareness of key legal risks and best practices.
- Promote a culture of legal awareness and risk mitigation within the organization.

Required qualifications
- Master’s degree in Law (LL.M.)
- 6 to 8 years of legal experience, preferably with a mix of private practice (law firm) and in-house experience.
- Proficiency in contract drafting, negotiations, and compliance management.
- Understanding of the hospitality sector is a plus.
- Experience working with OpCo/PropCo structures and hotel management agreements is a plus.
- Fluent in English (additional languages are an advantage).
